Idris Elba Seeks Balance in Life, Embraces Therapy
Idris Elba is taking time to reflect on his self-confessed “workaholic” lifestyle and says he’s seeking help to find a balance between productivity and relaxation.
The 51-year-old British actor spoke about his struggles during an interview on the “Changes with Annie Macmanus” podcast, which aired on Monday, 2 October. Elba revealed that he began seeing a therapist a year ago to work towards changing his lifestyle.
“It’s not because I don’t like myself or anything like that,” he said confidently. “It’s just because I have some unhealthy habits that have really formed. And I work in an industry that I’m rewarded for those unhealthy habits,” he added.
However, the “Luther” star has admitted he’s in a quagmire, as the activities that he usually finds relaxing tend to revolve around his work. “My studio in my house, I just love being in here,” he explained.
Elba has made a significant name for himself across the entertainment industry, as he’s also recognised as an award-winning film director, a rapper, a deejay, a producer, and even an entrepreneur.
Despite claiming that he was ready to change, when Macmanus asked whether Elba was willing to reduce his workload, the actor simply replied: “Work less? Come on.”
